It’s a very popular hike that may be crowded in July and August. This is an 11.2-mile roundtrip hike with 2,191 feet of elevation gain. Hike Grinnell Glacier Lower Grinnell Lake Now, let’s dive into some of the top things to do in Glacier National Park. Both require reservations from May 27 to Sept. You have to drive on one of them if not both to see the park. ![]() One specific thing to know before you go: A reservation is required for Going-to-the-Sun Road, which is the only road to take through the park, as well as the North Fork road, which runs around the park and ends at the East Entrance, where you’ll take the Going-to-the-Sun Road back through to the West. Therefore, I wanted to put together my must-sees so you could experience the best places in the whole park. So, I got to experience the park in ways that many people haven’t. I lived and worked in Glacier National Park in 2019 at the age of 19. Seeing these alpine animals with the beautiful landscape as a backdrop makes you feel as if you’re in a magical wonderland. These forests are home to thousands of species including bears, moose, mountain goats, big horn sheep, and marmots. Surrounding these breathtaking lakes are massive granite walls and lush green forests. Down in the valleys, the glaciers melted to form lakes the sediment that descended with the glaciers is too light to sink and too heavy to float, so it stays suspended in the water and reflects the light from the sun, creating the famously opaque blue color. These formed thousands of years ago as the glaciers, which weighed millions of tons, slid down the rough mountainside, grinding up the rock into very fine particles and dragging them down alongside. And they’re melting quickly, so you need to plan a trip as soon as possible! One of Glacier’s biggest attractions is its beautiful turquoise lakes. It is one of the few places left in the United States where you can see a glacier. Beautiful blue lakes, waterfalls everywhere, regal animals gracing the woods. Visiting Glacier is the closest you’ll get to feeling like you’re inside a fairy tale. Glacier National Park has been famously described as “America’s Switzerland” by the Great Northern Railway.
